Two Exciting Indie Games Get Release Dates
Nintendo’s first Nintendo Direct of 2024 was a Partner Showcase, meaning that the presentation highlighted third party games coming to the console, rather than focusing on games developed by Nintendo directly. So there was no news on Mario games, nothing on Zelda or Metroid, or anything that close to home. But, two of the years most exciting indie games finally got confirmed release dates. Thankfully, it won’t be a long wait.
Pepper Grinder from developer Ahr Ech announced a March 28th, 2024 release date. This promising platformer with the innovative mechanic of drilling through the ground with a giant handheld drill played great in the short demo that became available earlier this month. That demo is now also available on the Nintendo Switch eShop. You can read some brief impressions of the demo in my demo article, but overall the demo was a lot of fun and felt great to play. Pepper Grinder will launch for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
Another Crab’s Treasure, from the appropriately named developer Aggro Crab, also announced a release date. This souls-like action game pits a small hermit crab against various other undersea crustaceans in the fight to reclaim his shell. The game has a great aesthetic, and while I personally missed the chance to try the demo last year, it has earned a lot of praise from those who did. The demo is no longer available, so instead interested fans will have to wait until April 25th, 2024, just another two months. Another Crab’s Treasure will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass, and PC via Steam.
There are a lot of other great indie games that still need to announce release dates, but it is great to know how much longer the wait will be for these two. Which one looks the most interesting to you?
