Morsels Announced During Indie World Showcase
A highlight from today’s Indie World Showcase presentation by Nintendo was the newly announced, and frankly disgusting game Morsels, from developer Furcula and publisher Annapurna Interactive. This top-down rogue-like shooter follows the story of a strange mouse as they attempt to topple the rule of some evil felines. And “strange” can only begin to describe this game. The mouse protagonist uses cards to transform into small monsters with varying abilities, such as a fly, or what looks like a flower? It’s probably best if you watch some of the trailer for yourself.
This is the debut title from developer Furcula, which is made up of just three individuals, including Toby Dixon, the former lead artist behind another uniquely hideous game, Nidhogg 2.
Despite the horrific art style and city sewer setting, Morsels’ gameplay looks promising. And clearly, some love and effort went into the art, sprites, and world design, even if some people might find it disgusting. Art is art, right?
Players will be able to upgrade their various forms, as one moment from the trailer showed. The player is able to upgrade a form’s slipperiness, cheesiness, homeliness, and twitchiness. I would guess that at least twitchiness might correlate to movement speed and maybe slipperiness suggests that players will need to avoid being grabbed by something. One shudders at the thought of what might be waiting to grab you in this sewer.
What do you think of Morsels? Will you be adding it to your wishlist? Maybe even giving it a try when it releases next February? Morsels is planned to launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
