Devolver & Heart Machine Tease New Game

Yesterday across various social channels Devolver Digital (the publisher behind games like Cult of the Lamb, Death’s Door, Inscryption, and others) and Heart Machine (the developer behind Hyper Light Drifter, Solar Ash, and the upcoming Hyper Light Breaker) teased an announcement for this Friday’s Devolver Direct. Fans are left to speculate about what this could mean until then.

The only hint that fans have been able to piece together is a similarity between the silhouette featured in the teaser video and artwork posted during a recent Devovler sale. The silhouette appears to have many of the same features as the mysterious horned figure in the below image. There is even a slice of birthday cake sitting on the floor, which could connect to this summer’s direct which has been marketed as Volvy’s Birthday as it is Devolver Digital’s fifteenth anniversary.

The right image appears to feature the character in question, while the left features artwork of The Talos Principle 2, a recent Devolver-published game.

Another image featured alongside the others, I’m actually not sure what game this features.

An image featuring Devolver’s mascot Volvy sitting with who appears to be a character from Cult of the Lamb.

The neon colors and cyberpunk aesthetic seem to fit into the world of the Hyper Light games, so some fans have speculated that this announcement could be another game in that universe. Though with Hyper Light Breaker expected to launch in Early Access this summer, it would be a surprise to announce another game in the Hyper Light series just before that happens.

Either way, Heart Machine and Devolver Digital is a match made in indie game heaven, so it will be exciting to see what game is announced this Friday just a few hours after the Summer Game Fest showcase. Stick to Finally Got Around To for more news when that drops.

For now, what do you think? Is this something that catches your attention? Are there any details that I missed? Let me know in the comments below!
