Jusant Impressions

Jusant from developer Don’t Nod

So far, I am about an hour or two into Don’t Nod’s Jusant. The gameplay is enjoyable, but not as challenging puzzle-wise as I expected. Supposedly, I am about 33% of the way through the game and have yet to feel challenged. The biggest challenge so far was figuring out how to successfully double jump, which should be more of a feature than an obstacle.

That being said, there’s a lot more game to experience. Now that I’ve gotten most of what I assume are the basic mechanics down, things might get more complicated and challenging.

The gameplay itself is pretty great. It does take some concentration to hold and let go, deciding where to strategically place a piton is fun, and who doesn’t love a good open-air swing and jump? But what stands out the most is the narrative hiding in the background. Between the environmental storytelling of this abandoned tower and reading the letters and notes left behind, I am enamored with the history of this world, and can’t wait to see what else is revealed.

I am excited to see where it goes, and I’ll let you know when I finally get around to that.
