Grit and Valor - 1949: Real-Time Tactical Rogue-Like

Over the long weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Guerilla Collective showcase in Los Angeles, which happened shortly after the Summer Game Fest livestream on Friday. The Guerilla Collective showcase was an amazing opportunity to get hands-on demos and talk directly with the developers as they watched me try their game for the first time. This post is the second in a series of articles I plan to use to highlight some of the great games I was able to take a look at. To read the previous articles in this series, click or tap the Editorial section above and look for images with the green Guerilla Collective logo. Now, onto the game.

Grit and Valor - 1949 from developer Milky Tea Studios and publisher Megabit, stood out as one of the grittiest games I saw at the Guerilla Collective. It is safe to say it earns its name. The game is set in an alternate World War 2 scenario where the Axis Powers are victorious. But not all hope is lost. The player must command a squad of mech pilots to deliver an EMP deep into enemy territory to take down Machine Tower, the enemy headquarters.

At the showcase, I had the opportunity to talk to John, the CEO and Founder of Milky Tea Studios (I hope I’m getting that right, I have a lot of business cards I still need to sort through), who was happy to talk to me about this upcoming game. Grit and Valor - 1949 combines a rogue-like mech fighter with real-time tactical combat. This worried me immediately, as I’m not always able to jump into long drawn-out strategy games, but John assured me that this won’t be the case. Grit and Valor is designed for players to take part in short sessions, making it easy to jump in and jump out if you have a busy schedule.

I would have more to say if I had been able to get my hands on the demo, but I only had a limited time and there were so many great games to check out. Thankfully I was able to watch another person take their turn while I talked with the developers. Steam Next Fest is ongoing at the time of writing, but there is no Grit and Valor demo available yet. With a 2025 release date planned, it makes sense that they would wait to launch a demo for now. Grit and Valor - 1949 will be on my radar (and my Steam wishlist) to support the developers and be the first to know about future updates.
